You know what’s fucking annoying? When art teachers and all these elitist artists shit on people and tell them that their art isn’t art because it doesn’t have some vague, deep, complicated ass meaning to it that no one can even decipher. When they tell you that art you do for fun isn’t good enough because you only did it because you like it and not to express emotions and feelings and convey something through it.
I just like making things that are pretty and cool to me and it’s really frustrating having people tell you your style of creativity isn’t good enough for them.

I think everything in life is art. What you do. How you dress. The way you love someone, and how you talk. Your smile and your personality. What you believe in, and all your dreams. The way you drink your tea. How you decorate your home. Or party. Your grocery list. The food you make. How your writing looks. And the way you feel. Life is art.
She never looked nice. She looked like art, and art wasn’t supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something.
- Mind-Twisting Optical Illusion Paintings By Rob Gonsalves
Facebook | huckleberryfineart.com (h/t: Vaalkor)
Rob Gonsalves is a famous Canadian artist whose works are recognizable for their magic realism and well-planned optical illusions. One image melts into another and comes back again full circle, playing with our minds by creating irrational dream worlds.
Gonsalves has been interested in drawing since he was a kid. By the age of twelve, he already demonstrated masterful technique and a good understanding of architecture and perspective. After he found out about the works of Salvador Dali and René Magritte, he turned to surrealism himself and has never looked back since.
Why
She had a dream and she realized it.
Hey wait but sit down
This is Megumi Igarashi
She’s a Japanese artist
Japan, the country with some of the most fucked up pornography and the penis festival
Where the vagina is basically illegal to talk about
So she did a bunch of art featuring 3D sculptures of her vagina, including this kayak, and was put in jail for it
She was indicted again in December on obscenity charges for selling vagina art to crowdfund for the kayak and could spend two years in prison
In Japan, women’s vaginas are treated as though they are men’s property. The trains here usually display pornographic advertisements. As a woman, I find that blatant objectification to be humiliating. I’m disgusted by it. My body belongs to me.
So, with this project I wanted to release the vagina from the standard Japanese paradigm. Japan is lenient towards expressions of male sexuality and arousal, but not so for women. When a woman uses her body in artistic expression, her work gets ignored, and people treat her as if she’s some sex-crazed idiot. It all comes back to misogyny. And the vagina is at the heart of it.
The vagina is ridiculed. It’s lusted after. Men don’t see women as equals—to them, women are just vaginas. Then they call my vagina-themed work “obscene,” and judge me according to laws written by and for men. [x]
She plans to turn her trial in to a manga comic. She seems pretty sure she’s not going to do any jail time but if you’d like to help her pay for her inevitable fine and court fees, you can check out her online store. There are little glow in the dark vagina characters.

Return to the Sea: Saltworks by Motoi Yamamoto
Japanese artist Motoi Yamamoto constructs intricate labyrinths, entire mountains made of salt.
Salt has always held special significance in the death rituals of Japan, and following the sudden death of his younger sister, Yamamoto channelled his grief into his maze-like installations. His works are largely improvised, yet meticulously poured, and at the end of each work, the public is invited in to destroy the work, collect the salt and return it, to the sea.

ART: Stellar by Ignacio Torres
"This project began from the theory that humans are made of cosmic matter as a result of a stars death. I created imagery that showcased this cosmic birth through the use of dust and reflective confetti to create galaxies."
